5 Spring Cleaning Tasks You Shouldn't Ignore

Aside from the standard deep-cleaning tasks we set out to tackle in the spring, there are a handful of jobs that fall outside those general spring cleaning tasks. Literally outside. Let's take a look at five key outdoor spring cleaning tasks that should likely get some TLC during spring cleaning this year.

Patio Furniture

If you don't have a covered or indoor space to store your furniture over the cooler months, it's likely they'll need a bit of a refresh before they're in patio shape. This not only improves their appearance but also helps to maintain their condition and extend their lifespan.

Start with a dry cloth or brush and wipe away any dirt or debris that has accumulated. Next, grab yourself a quality microfiber cloth and some all-purpose cleaner, and generously spray the hard surfaces of your outdoor furniture. Let that sit for a couple of minutes, then wipe the furniture down with your microfiber cloth and rinse thoroughly with a hose or bucket of water. If you have upholstered cushions, spot-treat any stains, and give them a good wipe-down with a clean damp cloth.

Air Conditioner Units

Keeping your A/C free of well, everything, is a must to ensure it's going to run smoothly when you need it to. Hopefully, you've had the unit covered in the off-season, but if not, here are a couple of tips. First, ensure the unit is turned off before diving into any of these tips! Start by getting rid of any debris, dead leaves, sticks, or anything else that's made its way into or around the unit. After all the large pieces have been removed, use a soft brush attachment on your shop vac and carefully clean any of the dust and/or dirt visible on the unit's exterior. Finally, start the unit for a short period before the warmer weather arrives so you know it's in good working order. It's painful to need your A/C on that first hot day only to discover it needs professional attention!

BBQs, Lawnmowers, & Leaf Blowers, Oh My!

Now is the time to pull out your manual and check with your specific make/model as to how to properly clean your seasonal appliances! But, at the very least, you'll want to ensure these tools are topped up with gas/oil/electricity as needed. You can always give the exteriors a once over with a microfiber cloth and all-purpose cleaner, and of course, some special love for the BBQ—scrape those grates, clean out the grease trap, and get all the accessories and gear out of storage. Garbage & Recycling Bins

Now, I know we use these year-round, but spring is the perfect time to give these much-used containers a once-over before the heat blows in and these things can really start to smell. And, you're in luck, we have a whole video on how to clean outdoor (and indoor) garbage cans.

Exterior Windows

Interior windows are generally pretty easy to clean, but if you're up for more of a challenge (with super satisfying results!) you can tackle the exterior windows of your home as well. Your best bet is to invest in a double-sided window squeegee for this job, but you can always use a quality microfiber cloth and a basic squeegee as well. For the cleaning solution, fill a large bucket with hot water, 1 cup of white vinegar, and a couple of squirts of dish soap, and mix well. Dip the squeegee (or microfiber cloth) into the solution and wipe the windows thoroughly using an s-pattern. As soon as you're done sudsing up the surface, use your squeegee to wipe the window clean, wiping the rubber blade of excess moisture in between strokes if necessary. Voila! Perfect, clean and shiny windows.

These are my top 5 areas that I always make sure to pay extra attention to when the spring is coming around!
